37…what a lovely number…

This year for my birthday I have decided to make a list of 37 things I want, no have to do before my 38th birthday next July 4th. I am going to use this opportunity to live out dreams both big and small and not let fear, of any sort, hinder my chance to do the things on my list.

To keep me honest on completing the tasks, I will blog about each adventure. I will also give a bit of a back story on why I have or haven’t attempted these things before. Sometimes it is because I was too chicken to do them or to anxiety ridden to concur these things. But as a promise to myself I will do these things no matter what. I may not do them in the order I am going to list them, but I will do them.

Besides, as you can see, my horoscope for today says so: Since the Moon rules the sign of Cancer, you are particularly attuned to her cycles. Today's New Moon in your sign is like your personal New Year's Day. This is an opportunity to make a list of resolutions. Imagine what you want to bring to fruition at the Full Moon in a couple of weeks. Also visualize your goals for the next six months. Plant the seeds of intention in your imagination, nurture them carefully and watch them grow.

Stay tuned for my list…

These Shoes Weren’t Made for Walkin’ (aka the seven signs I should have said no)

These Shoes Weren’t Made for Walkin’ (aka the seven signs I should have said no)
Shannon Anicas

My adventure today was to do errands for my boss. Simple enough. She said to park at the High Street garage and that one place was caddy corner to it and the other was just about a block down the street.

Being that Downtown Akron is not that big I thought nothing about the fact I was wearing brand new beige strappy sandals with my brown and beige cotton dress and its matching beige crop jacket. I figured it would be minor walking, I need the exercise and it gives me an excuse to leave the office since I had a very present head ache.

I park the car in the garage that she mentioned. I have used this garage before to go to our enormous library, but that parking was in the well lit and elevator friendly area. Where I had to park was dark and scary. This should have been sign numero uno that I was about to have an adventure. Next, in order to make it up to street level I had to walk up three flights of stairs that stunk worse then my cat box. Sign 2.

I get to the street level and look around for the bank that she wanted me to visit first. Not too far ½ a block maybe. Once I head in that direction I notice they are tearing out the sidewalks and I have to wobble through gravel in my strappy sandals in order to cross the street. Sign 3.

Before I walked in the bank I took a quick look around for the next bank I was to make the deposits in. I looked every where and no xxx bank in sight. I figured I could ask the teller inside where it was. Sign 4.

I made the transaction and proceeded to ask the teller where the bank was located. She pointed down the street, past the giant library, and the parking deck and the bus station. Oh boy, sign number 5.

As I re-cross the street through the gravel, I notice the sign for the bank ahead. I is really far from my vantage point, but I walk on. Past the loitering teens smoking who knows what, past the large RTA bus station and its large crowd of pick pockets and average citizens waiting to go some place else and 2 city blocks (3 times as large as the country blocks I am used to) and 5 urine soaked vagrants later, I am at the other bank. I did my deed and headed back. Sign 6.

This time I thought I would be smart and walk through the library to the garage so that I would a) run in to less urine smells, and 2) be in the air-conditioning. I made my way through the library and to the garage the way I normally do when visiting the library. When I get into the garage it doesn’t look anything like where I parked. I assumed that I should have gone down a floor, which I did. I pushed my keyfob so that I could find my car by sound. Nothing. I started walking to the opposite end of the garage and still pushing the button. At the middle of said garage, while still pushing the button I hear my car alarm go off. Success! Or so I think.

I walk all the way over to the other end and no car. I push the button again and nothing. ??? WTF??? I walk back about half way and try the alarm again. *BEEP BEEP BEEP* ok so where is my car. I walk down another urine soaked stair well to the next level down and nothing, no car. WTFHCWRUC? (I’ll explain later)!!!???!?!?! So I walk all the way up past the lst floor I was on and there is my car. Sign 7.

So seven signs, sweaty pits and two feet in pain later I am on my way back to work. Head ache intact.

I should have just said no.

Am I biting off more then I can chew?

Am I biting off more then I can chew?

In the merry merry month of May I have decided to teach again at night. So in addition to working at the “day job’ from 8-5 M-F, I am going to teach Human Disease from 6-10 M, T, & Th from April 28 (tonight) through May 22.

In addition I am trying to launch my home based freelance business and set up for my summer business of crafting and gift baskets with my daughter. I also plan on listing items on eBay, which entails cleaning out my closets (which desperately need it) taking pictures and actually listing stuff on eBay.

Also, baseball season for my youngest son has started. So a lot of my time off will be there watching him develop his skills so he can be a pro football and baseball playing doctor, lawyer, Indian chief when he grow up.

So between grading papers, setting up lesson plans and correcting batting stances I also am becoming a BeautiControl consultant. Which I love because I love the spa products, but I also spend a ton on the stuff (because I love it so much) so why not get it at a discount right?

I also have my awesome cousin Tamara coming in town this week (love ya girl!), mothers day celebrations at my awesome mother-in-laws, an Cleveland Indians game for little league night, I am now on the advisory committee where I teach, Erik and Amanda are with me every weekend (I love you guys!!) and it is time to get my veggies started for the garden.

In all of my craziness I would in no way be able to have so many things on my plate if it weren’t for my awesome husband John. He cooks, cleans and runs Johnathan everywhere. He helps coach the baseball team, handles snack night, has dinner ready for me and hugs me when I need hugged. He is the perfect husband and I am infinitely grateful for him. Without him my craziness would be insanity. I love you hunny!

Well, I better get to work because the day job is still my major source of income. But one day soon I shall be free! Lol Until then I must go type a roster.

Love, Shannon

PS if I am slow to respond to emails, phone calls, IM’s, or posts I am sorry. I will have my blackberry with me all the time I just may not be able to answer right away. But know that I still love you.

PSS if you need me for a gig in May the sooner you can let me know when the better because I am filling up fast! 
